Donnie Murphy Helps Thrash Athletics Pitching

Last night, the Texas Rangers defeated the Oakland Athletics, but it wasn’t pretty. They had to lean on part time, temporary first baseman Donnie Murphy to provide the offense, and as seems to be the case in Colby Lewis starts, the pitching was less than stellar. The Texas Rangers gave up 8 runs to the Athletics, and usually that means you get beat, but not last night.

Donnie Murphy, Adrian Beltre and Robinson Chirinos had 3 RBI a piece, and Murphy had 2 home runs.

“I got some good pitches to hit tonight and I didn’t miss them,” Murphy said after the game. “It’s good that we all came out and contributed. It was a good team win.”

The Texas Rangers came into this series 8 games behind the Athletics, and if fourth place overall. It was nice to see an offensive expolsion from a team that has struggled to score runs, especially against the AL West leaders.

"“It was just a good night of swinging the bat,” Washington said. “These guys know what’s going on. They don’t need to be reminded. They know what they are up against, so they just went out and swung the bats well tonight.” texasrangers.com"

So will Ron Washington now play Donnie Murphy more at first base? We will have to wait and see. The Rangers turn around and play tonight and tomorrow afternoon against the Athletics, so it is time for them to stop enjoying last nights game and get ready for tonight. Lets all hope they continue the offensive outburst that they started last night.
