I had the priveledge of interviewing Richard Durrett on several occasions about the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys on The Hague Sports Podcast, and for me being a blogger and an amateur podcaster, he was always very generous and gracious to me. He was one of my favorite beat writers to read, his takes on the team were spot on and his commentary was very enjoyable.
Richard Durrett was only 38 years of age, and the Texas Rangers world is reacting to his sudden passing, including a statement from the Texas Rangers.
"Mr. Durrett earned the respect of team management and field personnel for his fair and thorough coverage on the Rangers beat. Mr. Durrett was a versatile journalist in every sense of the word with both his written and electronic coverage. He was always willing to contribute to Rangers publications and even did occasional radio play-by-play on Rangers broadcasts in spring training and the regular season. The thoughts and prayers of our entire organization go out to Mr. Durrett’s family.”"
This news is beyond shocking and I have not yet found a credible source that confirms how he died, but that is not what this article is about. I enjoyed getting to talk to Richard on the phone the times that I did, and he will be greatly missed in the Texas Rangers community as well as in the community where he lived. Our thoughts a prayers go out to his family and colleagues.
Most accurate word to describe Richard Durrett is kind. You would not believe how kind he was. I couldn't believe it. So sad for his family.

One of nicest guys you'd ever meet, in this or any biz, has lost his life too young to even contemplate. Prayers to Richard Durrett's family
