Raining In Baltimore

The Texas Rangers had insult added to injury last night in their 6-4 loss to the Orioles. They blew a 4-0 lead, then they had to wait through a “rain delay” to finish out the game. It was just a continuation of the way that things seem to be going for the Texas Rangers right now. It reminds me of the line that Adam Duritz sings in the Counting Crows song “Raining in Baltimore” a few years back.

"“And I get no answersAnd I don’t get no changeIt’s raining in Baltimore, babyBut everything else is the same”"

The Texas Rangers have now lost 9 of their last 11 and they are 0-2 in the month of July. More of the same. One thing I will say about the young team, though, is that they still can make some exciting plays on the field, even when they can’t win.

Even Nelson Cruz had to tip his hat to Leonys Martin on this catch! The talent is there, it just needs to be developed more. The good news is that it will be, the bad news is that at this point, it probably won’t make a difference for the 2014 season.

Another thing that was impressive last night was Miles Mikolas. He did not look out of place on the mound, and he pitched what I think was a pretty good start for a guy with no major league starts under his belt before last night. I expect him to be a good stop gap, and if nothing else, he should be better than Joe Saunders was.

Things can only get better from this point on, I hope. I am still watching, I am still enjoying, and I am still believing that this franchise is in a one year injury funk before they return to the upswing in 2015. It’s never fun to watch your team go through a down year, but for those of us that suffered through the 2000’s and even the early 80’s and most of the 90’s , we will take one bad year to get back to the post season.
