The sports world lost a great journalist on June 17, 2014. Richard Durrett covered the Texas Rangers for more than a decade for The Dallas Morning News and most recently ESPN Dallas. Mr. Durrett passed away suddenly due to a brain aneurysm at the age of 38. He is survived by his wife Kelly, son Owen, and daughter Alice.

I only knew Richard Durrett through his articles and tweets. However, the outpouring of love and testimony of Richard’s genuine kindness from his colleagues and friends, who were the supposed competition, has given me insight on who Richard Durrett was.

The Texas Rangers created the Richard Durrett Family Fund for donations that will go directly to Mr. Durrett’s expecting wife Kelly and their children. You can make donations online at texasrangers.com/foundation. You may also send donations to Richard Durrett Family Fund, Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, 1000 Ballpark Way, Suite 400, Arlington, Texas 76011 or in person at any Liberty Bank locations.

If you are a fan of Texas Country Music, a sports memorabilia collector or both, then you will definitely want to attend the Do It For Durrett Benefit Concert and Auction. The event has been put together by Fox Sports Southwest journalist and friend of Mr. Durrett, Anthony Andro, along with the help of many others.

The Do It For Durrett Benefit Concert and Auction will be at Billy Bob’s Texas on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., tickets are just $20 in advance and $30 at the door and you MUST BE PRESENT TO BID, AND WIN auction items. The Benefit will include a concert, silent and live auction that you do not want to miss! Among the items of autographed memorabilia there are also experience packages and they are not just for baseball fans. Be sure to check out the pictures and descriptions for both the autographed items and experience packages below.

*ALL INFORMATION AND PICTURES VIA ANTHONY ANDO*

THE CONCERT:
It will feature the All Stars of Texas Country plus Rhett Miller and Daphne Willis. Local Texas Country singer Casey Donahew was recently added to the star-studded lineup. I have also been told by Mr. Ando himself that

It will be a night like none other. And while we can’t name two of the performers, it will be well worth the $20 if you’re into Texas country.”
