The Texas Rangers Magic Number is 9!

No I’m not new to baseball fandom.  And yes, I know what a magic number is.  I know your Texas Rangers are nowhere near discussing magic numbers or playoffs or even wild cards.  Heck, we can’t even talk about .500 baseball this year.  But wouldn’t it be magical if we got 9 more wins out of our favorite baseball team?

Why?  Because 9 more wins means we won’t be a 100-loss team!  Yeah!  Now, I know that’s a pretty low standard to celebrate, but I’m grabbing for straws after this long season.

100-loss seasons are the stuff of nightmares.  It’s the line in the sand that denotes the most terrible baseball teams in the way the Mendoza Line symbolizes terrible hitters.  I mean…when I say 100 losses, who comes to mind?

After their 3 back-to-back-to-back seasons of 100+ losses, the Houston Astros are the first team to pop into my mind too.  The 2011-2013 seasons were not kind to our neighbors to the southeast.  But for all that losing, the Astros have improved this year.  They aren’t exactly counting magic numbers either, but unless some new math is invented, they will not have 100 losses again this year.  So…YAY  HOUSTON!  (<–Those words will probably never come from my mouth again.)

You know what that makes us?  The worst team in baseball.  THE WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL.  And that’s not even just my opinion.  As of today, your Texas Rangers are playing .372 baseball, at 54-91.  Only the Rockies are even close to being as bad as we are.  Remember a few months ago when I scoffed at this being the worst team Rangers team we’ve ever seen?  SCOFFED!

Well, joke’s on me.  Mostly.  If a 100-loss season comes to fruition in a couple of weeks, this won’t be the first time that’s ever happened in Ranger’s history.  But, if you’re less than 41 years old, then this is definitely the worst Rangers team you’ve ever seen, the worst since the 1973 Texas Rangers that finished 57-105.

So I am here today to rally the troops!  Put on your rally caps and eye black.  Sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame.  Do the Cotton-Eyed Joe.  And still DON’T do the wave.  We need your best cheers for 9 more wins.

9 more wins, Rangers fans!  9 more wins and my blog post from June won’t be completely wrong!  I mean…we won’t be a 100-loss team!  Yeah!

We have 17 games left with the Angels, Braves, As, and Astros…LET’S DO THIS!
