Rangers Rally Falls Just Short

The Rangers seven game winning streak ended yesterday in a 8-5 loss to the Angels, but it should have been a lot worse. The Rangers were down 8-1 at one point, and Colby Lewis did not pitch his best game of the season by far.

“It’s the fifth time I’ve faced them. … My pitch selection was off,” Lewis said according to texasrangers.com. “My fastball was good, it was just up in the zone a little bit.”

The Angels took advantage of that fastball early and often. Colby Lewis has not pitched well at all against the Angels, Lewis is 1-4 with a 9.34 ERA in five starts against the Angels, and 9-10 with a 4.58 ERA in 23 starts against all other teams. There is always that one team that tends to get to a pitcher, and the Angels are that team for the Rangers.

The Rangers offense rallied late behind the bat of (who else) Adrian Beltre among others, but they couldn’t come all the way back. The Rangers will play their last road game of the season this afternoon, and Nick Tepesch gets the ball for the Rangers. It has been a good month at the end of a really bad season for the Rangers, and I hope that they can continue to roll all the way through next week.
