Guilder Rodriguez Gets His Chance

Guilder Rodriguez got his first major league hit and his first major league RBI on Monday night against the Houston Astros, and his RBI also happened to be the game winning hit. For those of you that don’t know, Guilder Rodriguez has spent the better part of eleven season in the minor leagues before getting his first call up this season, and although I don’t think he is going to be with the team when the season starts next year, it is still a feel good story this season.

“This is one of the best moments of my life,” said Guilder Rodriguez according to Calvin Watkins. “My first big league hit, my first RBI, my father in the stands, my wife. This is my second-best moment, after my two daughters were born.”

As the Rangers season is a lost cause, fans can at least enjoy stories like the one we had Monday night with Guilder Rodriguez. I enjoy watching a guy be that excited after all the time that he put in when he finally achieves his dream and gets to play on the highest level in the world. It has to be a pretty amazing feeling. While we have spent a lot of time in 2014 talking about all the things that have gone wrong and all the disappointment that the season has brought Rangers fans, it is so nice to see the Rangers winning and to see a guy like Rodriguez get his shot. I, for one, hope that he stays with the organization, even if he retires and becomes some sort of coach in the minors. So congratulations to Guilder Rodriguez, Monday was a day none of us will forget soon.
