Jon Daniels wants a manager hired by Oct. 20, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. My money would be on either Tim Bogar or Mike Maddux. Tim Bogar went 14-8 as the Rangers manager to finish out September, but my fear would be that Maddux would leave if he is not offered the job. His current contract runs out at the end of October.
Tim Bogar seems to have earned the respect of his players, and that is why I think he will eventually get the job as the head man for the Rangers. I think that his style would be good for rebuilding the Rangers back into a contending team. Tim Bogar would make a good choice, but so would Mike Maddux. The Rangers will also interview a few candidates outside the organization.
I personally think that Tim Bogar did enough to earn the job, and I think that they can probably offer Mike Maddux enough money to stay on as the pitching coach, but we will just have to wait and see. Time Bogar has to at least be the front runner, but Jon Daniels likes to surprise people with his decisions some times, so we will just have to wait and see what he winds up doing.
One thing is for sure, the next Texas Rangers manager ,whether it be Tim Bogar, Mike Maddux or anyone else, probably shouldn’t finish the season 30 game under .500. I don’t think Rangers fans can take another season like that.
