The Texas Rangers interviewed both Mike Maddux and Steve Buechele today according to sources.
While I happen to believe that Tim Bogar is going to be the next Texas Rangers manager, I would not be surprised if either of these gentlemen won the job. Steve Buechele is currently the manager of the Round Rock Express, and of course Mike Maddux is one of the most successful pitching coaches in Texas Rangers history.
The Texas Rangers have plans to interview a few candidates outside of the organization as well, but I believe that it will come down to Buechele, Bogar and Maddux. My fear would be that Mike Maddux would go elsewhere if he does not get the job, and I really don’t want to see him go. Then again, I didn’t want to see Wash go either.
The Rangers are planning to announce their next manager before the end of October, most likely right after the World Series ends. Internal or external, I hope that the next manager is one that lead the team back to where Ron Washington had them in 2010 and 2011. Or at least not lose over 90 games again. We will keep you posted on anything else we hear on the manager search!
