By David Cash

The Texas Rangers re-signed shortstop Guilder Rodriguez to a minor league deal. He was the player that the Rangers called up last season to finally make his major league debut after spending 14 years in the minors.

During his time with the Rangers he managed to collect a pair of hits over 12 at-bats. It doesn’t sound like much, but for him and his teammates it meant a life long goal has finally been accomplished.

More than likely Rodriguez won’t see much time in the majors this season, but he’ll be a great asset to have in the Rangers minor league system to mentor younger players. He’s already played with several of the top prospects such as Rougned Odor.

In my opinion this is great for both Rodriguez and the Texas Rangers. Rodriguez has worked very hard over the last 14 seasons and has been very patience while being a career minor league players. Not many players stick with it as long as he has and not made it to the majors at least for some extended time. I would imagine once his playing days are over he’ll remain with the Rangers in some capacity maybe as a coach for one of their minor league teams.
If the Banister-arc holds true, I'd like to be the first to congratulate Guilder Rodriguez on being named the Pirates manager in 2032.
