Rangers Win In Walkoff Fashion Against Padres

A walkoff homerun by Bobby Wilson lifts the Texas Rangers over the San Diego Padres.

Opening Day starter, Cole Hamels, got the start for Texas against the Padres and went 3 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 5 hits and walked 3 batters. Camels struggled a bit with location on Friday which is what lead to the runs for San Diego. The Rangers threw a number of players in relief with Tony Barnette being the most notable. Barnette went 1 innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits and recording 1 strikeout.

At the plate, the Texas Rangers exploded for 6 homeruns on the game. Rougned Odor was the offensive catalyst for Texas going 4-4 with 3 homeruns and 4 RBIs. Odor took 13 total base yesterday for the Rangers and is now hitting .464 in Spring Training. He’s 11-20 in his current 6 game hitting streak. Mitch Moreland hit his third homerun of the Spring and Drew Robinson hit his second.

Roster Notes

Chi Chi Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock Friday removing him from contention for the 5 starter spot at least for the mean time. James Jones was also optioned to Round Rock.

Injury Report

Delino DeShields, who was injured with a right biceps strain, went 2-4 with a walk and a stolen base in a minor league game on Friday. Yu Darvish, who is working back from Tommy John surgery, threw a 35 pitch bullpen session as well.
