Eric Jenkins

Eric Jenkins may be one of the Rangers most underrated prospects heading into 2017. Ranked as the Rangers’ seventh prospect by MLB Pipeline. Jenkins’ elite speed and defense could land him in Arlington sooner.

Jenkins stole 51 bases in 2016 only getting thrown on 15 times. This coming after successfully stealing 28 bases in 31 attempts in only 56 games in 2015.

Jenkins’ is one of the fastest players in the system, there’s no denying that. However, he needs to improve on getting on base to show off that speed.

Striking out 27.8 percent clip in 2015 and a 27.4 percent clip in 2016, Jenkins is prone to striking out. He’ll need to improve his plate discipline. His speed warrants being at the top of the order, his .279 OBP does not.

The Rangers have several high-ceiling outfield prospects in the system, Jenkins is the best defensively. His 2.14 range factor in 2016 shows his elite defensive potential. If Jenkins can improve his approach at the plate, he could be in Arlington sooner than we think.
