Texas Rangers: Recap Of Last Night’s Loss

The Texas Rangers come up short against the New York Mets, losing 4-3. Texas is now 27-32 remaining in fourth place in the American League West standings, 14.5 games behind the first place Houston Astros. Next stop is the nation’s capital against the Nationals, who are the best team in the National League. After that, they go down to Houston. A very tough road trip ahead for Texas.
A sad night for the Texas Rangers. In the bottom of the first with the bases loaded with no outs, Texas only scored one run. In the fourth inning, New York took a 2-1 lead, making it 3-1 in the sixth. Texas did tie it the eight, but ultimately fell short due to a costly error in the ninth inning.
Yu Darvish stepped on the mound. He pitched 7.1 innings, allowing three hits, three runs, and striking out nine batters, earning a no decision. An excellent performance, however the only two mistakes is the two homers he allowed, but he did not have any run support from the offense, so we can’t point the finger at him. Other than that, his performance is respectable. His next start is in Houston next Tuesday. He’s definitely going to need the rest.

Making his return, Dario Alvaraz relieved Darvish. He pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, and striking out no batters. Matt Bush came in to close out the game, allowing one hit, one run, and striking out two batters, suffering his first loss this season. However, the run he allowed is not one him as it came on an error by Rougned Odor. Bush at one point was in a predicament, but he fought through it.
Offense finished 8-for-33, striking out eight times. At one point, with the bases loaded with no outs, only one run came home. In another inning with two on base and one out, no runs came home. That really hurt the Rangers. Delino DeShields is the only player with more than hit in this game. Robinson Chirinos blessed Texas with a two-run homer to tie the game and give them a golden opportunity, but they failed to take advantage. Odor, Joey Gallo, and Ryan Rua went a combined 2-for-11, each striking out twice.
The Rangers are off today. No doubt, they’re going to need it. The Washington Nationals are very tough. Washington leads the National League in runs scored, so pitching must be ready. Andrew Cashner takes the mound tomorrow. Let’s hope Texas can pull of a miracle.
