Opening Weekend is in the books and the Major League Baseball season has returned. With the return of the season, momentum and expectations help us build the MLB Power Rankings.

This power ranking is comprised of all 30 MLB teams. The rankings primarily consider the opening series’ for teams through Sunday, April 1st

but will take into account offseason moves and acquisitions. Working backwards from 30 to number 1, here we go..

63. The Tigers dropped the first three games of the season to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Without much of a rotation and a lineup, save Miguel Cabrera, this likely will be a long year for the Detroit rebuild. Expect a season with losses pushing the mid-90’s.. (0-3). Previous: n/ath. Detroit Tigers. 30. team

(0-3). Previous: n/ath. Cincinnati Reds. 29. team. 61. The Reds, much like Detroit, dropped their first 3 games of the season, getting swept by the Nationals. Joey Votto is about the only saving grace for this Reds team that is in the middle of rebuilding. An 85+ loss season is very likely for this team.

127. Getting swept in your season opening series isn’t a hot way to start out the season. San Diego dropped 3 straight the Brewers to open up the season and don’t expect this trend to disappear. Besides Eric Hosmer, the Padres don’t have much of a lineup or rotation to speak of. It’s going to be a long year in San Diego.. (0-3). Previous: n/ath. San Diego Padres. 28. team

7. The only other team to get swept in their season opening series was the Royals. But, they only lost 2. The third game of the series against the Chicago White Sox was postponed so they have 1 fewer loss than the teams behind them. Still, the Royals lost the majority of their best players in the offseason and likely won’t climb much higher than this position the rest of the year.. (0-2). Previous: n/ath. Kansas City Royals. 27. team

Previous: n/ath. Chicago White Sox. 26. team. 128. Chicago won their first two games of the series albeit against a dismal Royals team. Despite this, the White Sox are expected be a pretty bottom of the barrel team in 2018. On the bright side, Chicago does have one of the deeper farm systems with lots of young talent.. (2-0)
