With the MLB Draft just over a month away, we’re looking at the Texas Rangers top picks from last year.

The Texas Rangers are only a month away from an opportunity to continue growing the depth of their farm system with the MLB Draft. With that, the Rangers’ picks from last year are now almost a year into their pro careers. Here’s a look at their top picks from last year.

Bubba Thompson: Round 1 Pick 26

The Rangers drafted outfielder Bubba Thompson out of McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Alabama. Thompson, a former state champion high school quarterback, was an Alabama baseball commit but decided to turn pro after being drafted in the first round. An all-around athletic player, the Rangers have high hopes for the 19-year old. Bubba played 30 games in 2017 for the Rangers’ Rookie Ball Arizona League team. He played well in his short time batting .257 and posting a .317 on-base percentage. Still a very raw prospect, Thompson started 2018 in extended spring training to keep developing as a player.

Chris Seise: Round 1 Pick 29

Texas had two first round picks in 2017 and used the second on shortstop, Chris Seise. Seise was drafted out of West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida. Seise spent 2017 between Low-A Hickory and Arizona Rookie League. In his 51 games between the two leagues, he hit .284 with 36 RBI. Seise is considered an above average defensive shortstop and was one of the top prospects coming out in the 2017 draft. Chris Seise also started the 2018 season in extended spring training.

Hans Crouse: Round 2 Pick 66

The third pick of the Rangers 2017 draft was also a high schooler. Hans Crouse came to the Rangers from Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, California. Crouse, a right handed pitcher, is the highest rated prospect of the three and considered a top tier future pitcher. Crouse dominated in his short time in Rookie League last season appearing 10 games and making 6 starts. He posted an ERA of just .45 and a 13.5 strikeouts per 9 innings rate. The 19-year old pitcher will join Thompson and Seise in extended spring training to open up the 2018 season.

The 2018 MLB Draft will take place June 4-6 with the Tigers having the first overall pick. Texas will pick 15th in the draft as they look to restock their farm system for the future.
