Texas Rangers: What Changes Should Be Made to the New Nike Jerseys?

Nike is set to take over the production of MLB jerseys in the future and we think the Texas Rangers could use some uniform updates.

While I’m a big fan of the return of the red uniforms to the Rangers jersey arsenal over the past few years, the current lineup has become pretty bland. Four different color jerseys, all with Texas printed on the front in the same font. Versatile, but boring. Now I’m not asking for any big overhaul to the uniform selection. In all honesty, I’d just like to see some variation with the wording and accenting colors. Nothing major. With Nike reportedly taking over the manufacturing of MLB jerseys in the coming years, here’s some changes I’d like to see for Texas.

Blue Jerseys

This jersey doesn’t need much updating if any at all. Leaving Texas on the front makes sense as the blue jersey, along with the gray, are the ones worn on the road the most. Generally, the location of the club is on the front of the jersey when being worn on the road. This has become the jersey arguably most synonymous with the franchise. It can be worn both at home and on the road. Solid choice, no changes needed.

Red Jerseys

These are the most recent additions to the Rangers jersey lineups. While myself and other fans were happy to see the return of the red, I’d like to see the front say Rangers rather than Texas. Considering that this jersey is really only worn at home, this would be the perfect opportunity to showcase the team name in front of the home fans. Now I don’t want Texas to go back to the script writing, I like the western block style, but putting Rangers on the front would help bring some changes to the lineup.

White Jerseys

Now this is the change I’d most like to see. I love these uniforms despite the fact that I’m not old enough to actually remember watching the Rangers wear these. Obviously the font could be updated to the current text but I am adamant that the Rangers should bring back the white unis with red piping and lettering. These are classic Texas Rangers and evoke the old western style that represents the namesake of the club. Now you may want to add a bit more blue to the accents so you can continue to use blue helmets.

As an alternate to the late 90’s version, Texas could also use this white jersey as inspiration. This would probably be a bit more versatile in terms of using both blue and red helmets slash hats. Also shoutout to my favorite player of all-time, Hank Blalock.

Gray Jerseys

Like the blue jerseys, I don’t think these need much by way of change. This is a classic looking away jersey that makes the club recognizable away from home. Nike should slap whatever new technology they have on this and send it on it’s merry way. BTW, if I were to make a change, add a bit more red. I don’t know where though.

Bonus Round

As a bonus for making it to the end of this article, here’s the hands down best Rangers uniform in my lifetime. Too bad vests are no more. RIP to the vest look.
