Statistical Predictions

Assuming Volquez can stay healthy and in the rotation all season, he likely makes 30 starts for Texas. In full seasons, he generally makes more starts, but I’d expect the Rangers to be careful when it comes to his innings coming off Tommy John surgery. I’m sure the Rangers would also love to get 175 innings out of Edinson but I’d be expecting somewhere between 150 and 160 because, as aforementioned, they likely will look to limit his innings a bit.

With regards to ERA, if Volquez can keep it around 4.00 that’s a successful season but over the course of the year, it likely sits around 4.50 which would be slightly above his career average, but not so high that he loses his spot in the rotation.

Lastly, when it comes to his record, he likely will face the struggles of a losing season for the Rangers as a club. A 9-11 record would make sense with how Texas will likely struggle as a club but also is fairly balanced for a player with an elevated ERA, evidence of the offensive firepower we can expect from the Rangers this season.
