Asdrubal Cabrera gives the Texas Rangers closure at third base. It also answers a few questions about the club’s present state and future state.

The Texas Rangers resolved their most pressing defensive concern on Tuesday when signing infielder Asdrubal Cabrera. Cabrera is expected to be the club’s starting third baseman in replacement of the legendary Adrian Beltre.

Texas needed to do something at the hot corner. They lost Beltre to retirement, and finding his replacement only got harder when Jurickson Profar was traded to Oakland. Their top options leading up to Tuesday were Patrick Wisdom and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Those two combine for only 143 career major league games.

So yes, a free agent signing needed to be made. And, with the third base question answered, a few other questions have also been answered…
