2017, Pick #26: OF Bubba Thompson, McGill–Toolen Catholic HS (AL)

Texas opted to go outfielder in the 1st round of the 2017 draft taking prep center fielder, Bubba Thompson out of McGill–Toolen Catholic HS in Mobile, AL. A standout high school baseball and football player, Thompson was regarded as one of the best pure athletes in the 2017 class. Texas sent Thompson to Rookie-League where he played in 30 games and posted a .257 average. The Texas Rangers placed Thompson with Single-A Hickory in the 2018 season where he spent the entirety of the year. He made 84 appearances for Hickory posting a .289 average with a .790 OPS and 32 stolen bases.

This season, Thompson was promoted to High-A Down East and played in 12 games for the Wood Ducks before hitting the Injured List with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. Entering the season, Thompson was ranked as the #48 prospect in the game by Baseball Prospectus and #108 by Fangraphs. MLB Prospect Watch has Thompson as the 5th prospect in the Rangers organization.
