Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates made a couple of bold trades prior to last year’s trade deadline, neither of which played in their favor. They are having a nice season, but will need to take a plunge if they want to outduel their NL Central counterparts down the stretch.

Ultimately, Pittsburgh is all too familiar with their current situation. They’re always in the hunt, but their efforts lead to a Wild Card berth, at best. Even if they feel Mike Minor can help carry them to a division title, they won’t be able to afford him. The Pirates won’t be willing to give up their top minor league players in back to back seasons.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers came so close to making it to the World Series in 2018. Thus, they’ll definitely be looking to buy this trade season to help their chances of getting there in 2019. Milwaukee’s rotation lacks depth and experience, but unfortunately their notable prospects do not fit the Texas Rangers’ needs.

New York Yankees

You can’t discuss a blockbuster trade chip without mentioning the Yankees. While Bronx leadership is constantly one for the spectacular, they don’t have the available youth to offer the Rangers. New York’s farm system ranks 20th in MLB. They have plenty of desired talent at the big league level, but all of it is critical to their 2019 success. A deal won’t get done between the Yankees and Rangers.
