Texas Rangers: Five Things You Should Know About Globe Life Field
With the opening of Globe Life Field rapidly approaching, here are the five things you should know about the Texas Rangers new home.
The Texas Rangers closed Globe Life Park with the final home game in September and with it, closed an era of Rangers baseball that saw AL West Division Titles, AL Titles, and World Series appearances. Some of Texas’ all-time greats played inside Globe Life Park and gave us memories that will last a lifetime. Now begins a new chapter. One that opens right next to Globe Life Park and gives hope to more memories and hopefully a World Series or two. Here are the five things you should know about Globe Life Field.
1. It’s Part of More Than Just a Ballpark
Globe Life Field will be part of the Texas Live! Complex, and will include a shopping mall, hotel and a variety of restaurants and stores. The goal of the Texas Live! setup is to create a full entertainment atmosphere surrounding a pair of DFW’s pro sports franchises in the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
2. Country Music Will Open the Park, Not Baseball
Before the Rangers will get to actually play on the field, big time country music stars like Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Yolo, and Willie Nelson will open the doors of Globe Life Field in a concert on March 14th, 2020. This will be nine days before the players get a chance on the field when they face the St. Louis Cardinals in an exhibition on March 23rd.
3. Baseball Indoors?
Yep, you heard that right. Globe Life Field will have a retractable roof, so the Texas Rangers can play regardless of weather conditions. While this obviously is beneficial on rainy days, the ability to close the roof and avoid the 100-plus degree temperatures North Texas is prone to in the summer will be a huge benefit to players and fans alike. Globe Life Field will be the seventh Major League Baseball park with a retractable roof.
4. Smaller than Globe Life Park
The new ballpark is considerably smaller than Globe Life Park. Globe Life Park had a maximum capacity of around 48,114 while Globe Life Field will seat around 40,000. Hopefully this will help the Rangers sell out their new park more often and create an atmosphere of a fuller and more intimate place to play.
5. First Game at Globe Life Field
While the first exhibition will be March 23rd, 2020 against the St. Louis Cardinals, the first regular season game inside Globe Life Field will be March 31st when they host their AL West rivals, the Los Angeles Angels for a three game series.
