The Warm-Up Gifts (The Needs)

When constructing your Christmas list, you always have to start somewhat small. You don’t want to go big with the first thing listed on the paper and give Santa sticker shock. These are to ease your way into the list and are virtually guaranteed locks that can help build towards your big time goal.

For the Rangers, the warm-up gifts were improvements to the starting rotation. Last season, Texas had Mike Minor, Lance Lynn and then a whole lot of question marks for a rotation. Adding one or two starting pitchers this offseason was a must, even if they weren’t frontline starters. There were plenty of options and because Texas started small, they were rewarded early in the form of Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles. Both starters inked reasonable contracts relatively early in the offseason process ensuring that no matter what happens regarding the big asks on the wishlist, Texas would at least walk away with the needs.
