July 30 Trade Deadline

July finishes off with a bang for the Texas Rangers with the trade deadline.

Along with the draft, the upcoming July trade deadline in baseball will be the Texas Rangers’ other best chance to accumulate young talent to progress this ongoing rebuild.

It’s widely known that the Rangers will be sellers this month and players including Kyle Gibson, Ian Kennedy and Joey Gallo are all likely to be on the block.

Each can bring back a different caliber of return, with Gibson and Gallo likely to net decently-sized packages due to their 2021 production and added years of team control. We’re talking some prospect pitchers and position players with upside, if not some MLB-ready help as well.

Kennedy, meanwhile, is a closer on a minor league deal. Therefore, the return he’ll net Texas will be smaller due to his being a rental, but the Rangers received two prospects for Rougned Odor so you just never know.

The most important trade piece for the Rangers is undoubtedly Kyle Gibson, who’s having his best season by far and will likely never be this valuable ever again. This front office can’t afford to make the same mistake they made with Mike Minor (holding on too long) and should strike while the iron’s hot.

If Texas can sell off the right pieces and get adequate returns for their services, along with nailing the MLB draft, then July 2021 will have been a tremendous success and the fans can feel good about where this organization is headed.

Either way, July 2021 is a month that will shape the Texas Rangers’ future, and as a result, it needs to be treated as such.
