3. John Hicks
Do you remember when this veteran journeyman catcher was briefly the hottest hitter on the Texas Rangers in July? Yeah that was… fun!
With the Rangers in need of a catcher, Hicks answered the bell and actually raked while he was in Arlington, with four home runs and a .936 OPS in 31 at-bats.
Good thing Texas didn’t rely upon his bat too much, though, as his career OPS of .680 is less than inspiring. But at that time, he was an absolute revelation and spark for a lineup that desperately needed an offensive jolt.
He even played in a Rangers’ road series at Detroit, a place he used to call home, and extracted some revenge!
Hicks is still in the organization at AAA, where he serves as a depth at the catcher position. But it’s fun to reminisce on his brief period of success with the big league club.
