State of the Texas Rangers’ 40-man roster: Outfield

The outfield is a bit of a mess.  The only fixture is the reigning Texas Rangers Rookie of the Year, Adolis Garcia.  The Ranger signed Kole Calhoun but, at 34, he is likely to be the extra outfielder and DH.  That currently leaves the youngers to fight it out during Spring Training to see who makes the team.  One more outfield signing is likely going to need to happen before Spring Training.

Adolis Garcia played 149 games from the Rangers in 2021.  He was named the Rangers Rookie of the Year after posting a .243 AVG, 31 HR, 90 RBI, and 16 SB.  Garcia made $570,500 last year and is under team control until after the 2026 season.  His salary for 2022 is TBD because he is not yet arbitration eligible.

Willie Calhoun played 75 games, primarily in LF and DH for Texas last year. In 2021, Calhoun hit for a .250 AVG, 6 HR and 25 RBI.  In 2022, Calhoun will make $1.6M and he can file to become a free agent after the 2024 season.

Kole Calhoun played 51 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks last year.  Calhoun is currently in the mix to start in the outfield but, will likely be the 4th outfielder for the Rangers in 2022.  In 2021, Calhoun hit for a .235 AVG, 5 HR and 17 RBI with Arizona.  Calhoun recently signed a 1-year/$5.2M contract with a $5.5M club option for 2023.

Eli White played 82 games with Texas in 2021.  He hit for a .196 AVG, 10 HR, 32 RBI, and 4 SB in 2021.  White is under team control until at least 2028 and his salary for 2022 is TBD because he is not yet arbitration eligible.

Leody Taveras played 49 games with Texas in 2021.  He hit for a .161 AVG, 3 HR, 9 RBI, and 10 SB.  Taveras is under team control until at least 2028 and his salary for 2022 is TBD because he is not yet arbitration eligible.

Zach Reks played 87 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers AAA affiliate in Oklahoma in 2021.  He hit for a .280 AVG, 19 HRand 67 RBI in AAA in 2021.  Reks is under team control until at least 2028 and his salary for 2022 is TBD because he is not yet arbitration eligible.
