In April 1977, after parts of 15 seasons playing for the Detroit Tigers, Willie Horton was traded to the Texas Rangers.  In February 1978, Texas traded Horton to the Cleveland Indians.

For his career, Horton played 18 seasons in MLB, including his final two seasons playing for the Seattle Mariners.

Playing mainly OF/DH, Horton played 2,028 games in MLB collecting 1,993 hits, 325 HR and 1,163 RBI.

Horton was a four-time All-Star (1965, 1968, 1970, 1973), a World Series Champion (1968) and in 2000 had his #23 retired by the Detroit Tigers.
