Where are they now: 2014 Texas Rangers Position Players
Robinson Chirinos was in his first full season with Texas in 2014. In 93 games, Chirinos hit for a .239 AVG, 13 HR, and 40 RBI’s. Chirinos played four more seasons in Texas before electing free agency. Chirinos played the 2019 season in Houston, then returned to split 2020 between Texas and the New York Mets. In 2021, Chirinos played for the Chicago Cubs. Chirinos is currently a free agent.
Prince Fielder was the starting 1B for Texas in 2014. It was Fielder’s 1st season playing in Texas after the blockbuster trade with Detroit. In 42 games, Fielder hit for a .247 AVG, with three HR, and 16 RBI’s. Fielder played parts of two more seasons in Texas before announcing that a 2nd neck surgery would not allow him to continue playing baseball.
Rougned Odor was a rookie in 2014. Odor replaced Ian Kinsler to play 2B after he was traded to Detroit for Prince Fielder. In 114 games, Odor hit for a .259 AVG, nine HR, 48 RBI’s, and four SB. Odor played six more seasons in Texas before being traded to the New York Yankees in April 2021. In November, the Yankees released Odor and he signed a free agent contract to play with Baltimore in 2022.
Elvis Andrus was the starting SS for the Rangers in 2014. Andrus was in his 6th season playing with Texas. Andrus played 157 games and hit for a .263 AVG, two home runs, 41 RBI’s, and 27 SB. Andrus would play six more seasons in Texas before being traded to Oakland. Andrus played his first season in Oakland in 2021 and will return to play for the A’s in 2022.
Adrian Beltre was the starting 3B for the Rangers in 2014. Beltre was playing in his 4th season in Arlington and once again represented Texas in the All-Star game. In 148 games, Beltre had a .324 AVG, 19 HR, and 77 RBI’s. Beltre played four more seasons in Texas and retired from MLB after the 2018 season.
Shin-Soo Choo was in his 1st season primarily playing LF for Texas in 2014. In 123 games, Choo hit for a .242 AVG, 13 HR, 40 RBI’s, and three SB. Choo played six more seasons in Texas before moving back to Korea to play in 2021. Choo is a current member of the SSG Landers of the KBO.
Leonys Martin was the primarily CF for Texas in 2014. Martin was in his 4th season with Texas. In 155 games, Martin hit for a .274 AVG with seven HR, 40 RBI’s, and 31 SB. Martin played one more season in Texas before he was traded to Seattle prior to the 2016 season. After leaving Texas, Martin played four seasons with four teams. Martin played his final MLB game in 2019. Now 33, Martin is currently playing for Chiba in the NPB in Japan.
Alex Rios was the primary RF for Texas in 2014. In 131 games, Rios hit for a .280 AVG, four HR, 54 RBI’s, and 17 SB. After leavinf Texas, Rios played one season in Kansas City. After the 2015 season, Rios was bought out by the Royals and did not play another MLB game.
Mitch Moreland played 1B/DH for the Rangers in 2014. Moreland was in his 5th season playing for the Rangers. Moreland played 52 games and hit for a .246 AVG, two HR, and 23 RBI’s. Moreland played two more seasons in Texas before being granted free agency after the 2016 season. After leaving Texas, Moreland has played five more seasons for three teams and is currently a free agent.
