The 2020 Texas Rangers: Where are they now?

2020 Texas Rangers Bullpen

Rafael Montero was in his 2nd season in Texas in 2020.  In 17 relief appearances, Montero pitched 17.2 innings, had a record of 0-1, with a 4.08 ERA, and eight saves.  After the 2020 season, Montero was traded to Seattle.  At the 2021 trade deadline, Seattle traded Montero to Houston.  Montero is currently a member of the Astros.

Jonathan Hernandez was in his 2nd year in the Rangers bullpen in 2020.  Hernandez appeared in 27 games, had a record of 5-1, with a 2.90 ERA.  Hernandez missed the entire 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.  Hernandez has resumed pitching and is expected to return to the Texas bullpen at mid-season in 2022.

Jimmy Herget was in his first season in the Texas bullpen in 2020.  In 20 games, including one spot start, Herget pitched 19.2 innings, had a record of 1-0, with a 3.20 ERA.  Herget started 2021 in the Texas bullpen.  He was granted free agency in August and signed with the Los Angeles Angels.  Herget remains a member of the Angels pitching staff.

Jesse Chavez pitched out of the Texas bullpen in 2020.  In 18 games, Chavez pitched 17.0 innings, had a record of 0-0, with a 6.88 ERA.  Chavez was granted free agency after the 2020 season.  Chavez pitched for Atlanta in 2021.  At 38, Chavez is currently a free agent.

Nick Goody primarily pitched out of the Texas bullpen in 2020.  In 17 games, including one spot start, Goody pitched 11.0 innings, had a record of 0-2, with a 9.00 ERA, and one save.  Goody pitched AAA in the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals organizations in 2021.  Goody is currently a free agent.

Wes Benjamin was a rookie with the Rangers in 2020.  In eight games, including one spot start, Benjamin pitched 22.1 innings, had a record of 2-1, with a 4.84 ERA.  Benjamin split the 2021 season between the Rangers and AAA.  After the 2021 season, Benjamin was designated for assignment and was removed from the Texas 40-man roster.

Taylor Hearn pitched out of the Rangers bullpen in 2020.  In 14 appearances, Hearn pitched 17.1 innings, had a record of 0-0, and a 3.63 ERA.  Hearn split the 2021 season between the starting rotation and the bullpen with Texas and will be given every opportunity to earn a spot in the starting rotation in 2022.

Brett Martin was in his 2nd season in the Rangers bullpen in 2020.  In 15 games, Martin pitched 14.2 innings, had a record of 1-1, and a 1.84 ERA.  Martin is entering his 5th season with Texas and should be an important part of the Rangers bullpen in 2022.

Joely Rodriguez was in his 1st season in Texas in 2020.  In 12 relief appearances, Rodriguez pitched 12.2 innings, had a record of 0-0, and a 2.13 ERA.  Rodriguez started the 2021 season with the Rangers before he was shipped to the New York Yankees with Joey Gallo.  Rodriguez is currently a member of the Yankees bullpen.

Ian Gibaut was in his 2nd and final season in the Texas bullpen in 2020.  In 14 relief appearances, Gibaut pitched 12.1 innings, had a record of 0-1, with a 6.57 ERA.  Minnesota claimed Gibaut off waivers following the 2020 season and pitched in the Twins organization in 2021.  Gibaut is currently a free agent.

John King was a rookie with the Rangers in 2020.  In six relief appearances, King pitched 10.1 innings, had a record of 1-0, with a 6.10 ERA. In 2021,  King pitched out of the bullpen for the Rangers, until he was injured and required surgery for Thoracic outlet syndrome.  King should be ready to resume regular pitching duties for the Rangers in 2022.
