Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays Preview

This is the home opener for the Toronto Blue Jays, who are looking to continue where they left off in 2021: looking for a postseason berth.  They fell one game short of a Wild Card Spot last season. With a stacked lineup that features Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer, Bo Bichette, Teoscar Hernandez and a lineup that boasts elite talent like Kevin Gausman, Berrios, Hyun-jin Ryu and Alek Manoah, Toronto is expected to be one of the very best teams in baseball in 2022.

As for the Texas Rangers, they went 60-102 last season, that resulted in a fifth straight losing season. They haven’t finished a season above .500 since the 2016 campaign, also the last time they made the playoffs. Texas is looking to snap that streak this season, as they hit the jackpot in free agency by bringing in Corey Seager and Marcus Semien (who was a Blue Jay last season) as well as Jon Gray and Kole Calhoun.

By signing Seager and Semien, the Rangers formed arguably the best middle infield in baseball. The Rangers are still in a rebuild, but they come into the 2022 season in better shape, looking to win more games and surprise some people. The farm system is trending up, the big league team is improved and suddenly things feel more optimistic in Arlington than they have in years. There aren’t any real expectations: it’s simply time to play ball and see where the season takes us.

Texas won’t have their home opener until Monday, April 11th, when they face the Colorado Rockies at Globe Life Field. Taylor Hearn will take the mound in that game.
