The Texas Rangers were linked to several prominent players at this year's trade deadline. The Rangers made only two trade deadline moves, and neither involved big names; Texas acquired catcher Logan O'Hoppe and right-hander Chase Silseth from the Los Angeles Angels for minor-league infielder Angel Arredondo. The Rangers made their second deadline trade right before the deadline, sending utilityman Josh Smith and right-hander Josh Stephan to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-hander Adam Macko.

With the official MLB offseason on the horizon, the Rangers have another chance to target players they were linked to last summer.

3 2026 trade deadline targets Rangers should revisit this offseason

Baltimore Orioles LHP Trevor Rogers

In July, ESPN's Jeff Passan listed left-handed starting pitcher Trevor Rogers as the Texas Rangers' "best match" in a trade deadline move. The southpaw will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Rangers should consider signing Rogers this offseason. The rotation looks full with Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, MacKenzie Gore, Jack Leiter, and Kumar Rocker, but as we learned last season, the team cannot plan on the rotation staying healthy and performing at its best all year. Adding another established starter to the mix would be a good depth move and create healthy competition for the final rotation spots.

Rogers will turn 29 in November. He recorded a 4.03 ERA with 157 strikeouts over 169 2/3 innings in 2026. In 2025, Rogers had the best season of his career despite making just 18 starts, recording a 1.81 ERA over 109 2/3 innings.

The Orioles will likely extend Rogers the qualifying offer, meaning the Rangers would unfortunately lose a draft pick if they sign the southpaw.

Colorado Rockies C Hunter Goodman

Many teams were linked to star catcher Hunter Goodman last summer, but the Rockies ultimately decided to keep the backstop. Teams will likely reach out to Colorado about Goodman this offseason, and the Rangers would be making a mistake if they aren't one of them. He is under team control through the 2029 season.

Goodman, 27, is coming off back-to-back All-Star seasons. Over the past two years, Goodman slashed .262/.317/.525 (115 wRC+) with 6.0 fWAR, 72 home runs, and 179 RBI. He would be expensive to acquire, but Texas should at least see what it would take to pry the star catcher away from Colorado.

The Rangers have two catchers, Logan O'Hoppe and Danny Jansen, under contract for next year, but that shouldn't stop them from pursuing Goodman, arguably the sport's best-hitting catcher.

Minnesota Twins C Ryan Jeffers

If Texas cannot acquire Jeffers, the club can target Ryan Jeffers this offseason. Jeffers is set to be a free agent. Like Rogers, Jeffers will likely receive a qualifying offer, meaning the Rangers would lose a draft pick by signing Jeffers.

Passan and Kiley McDaniel of ESPN linked the Rangers to Jeffers in June. Jeffers slashed .256/.353/.461 (128 wRC+) with 2.6 fWAR, 14 home runs, and 56 RBI in 2026. He appeared in just 92 games due to a left hamate bone fracture.
