We are just about done with the month of June and the countdown to the 2025 MLB Trade Deadline begins for the Texas Rangers.
Do they end up committing to making a playoff push? Or is the journey over and Chris Young commits to selling off important contributors?
3 players entering their final month with the Texas Rangers
Adolis Garcia
This is still a hit or miss on a trade if we are being honest. But if anyone was on their way out of Arlington, it is indeed the 32-year-old outfielder.
Garcia has been everything for the Rangers since being called up back in 2021 and has lead the team in many offensive categories since then. He's averaged 30 homers and 95 RBIs from 2021-2024 despite the 2024 and start of 2025 season being less than stellar.
With a plethora of young outfielders in the waiting room for Texas, it might time to let go of Garcia. While it may not bring a huge return, Garcia is still under contract for cheap over the next two seasons so Garcia will intrigue potential trade partners.
Tyler Mahle
Out of these three names, Mahle is less likely to be traded by the deadline. Whether that is because Texas wants to get everything out of him or he still will be injured and other team's don't want to take a chance on him.
The latter reason is a bit crazy because it's less risk to take a chance on trading for Mahle even if he might be hurt. The right-hander is in the final year of his contract and is having a career year. In 14 games, Mahle is 6-3 with a 2.34 ERA, 56 strikeouts, 23 walks, 1.13 WHIP and .214 opponent batting average in 77 innings of work.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding his return. When he was placed on the IL with shoulder fatigue retroactive to June 12, his potential return would have been this weekend but that clearly did not happen. The organization knows more than the public and would be ready to share that info with any interested parties.
Chris Martin
Martin, 39, has continued to be a heavily relied on veteran reliever throughout his career and is staying true to that reputation so far this season.
The Arlington native returned to the Rangers (played with Texas from 2018-19) this offseason and in 30 games has a 2.42 ERA, 29 strikeouts, two saves and 1.00 WHIP mostly serving as an eighth inning relief man for Bruce Bochy.
Martin was one of the three Rangers' listed on ESPN's top 50 trade candidates this summer. Would the Rangers value giving up their hometown man and trustworthy late-inning relief when Texas is still hovering around the .500 mark?
