There is still plenty of time and numerous free agents and trade targets available for the Rangers to pursue to fill some of the glaring holes they face heading into 2026.

They still need a solid closer and a starting pitcher to solidify the roster before spring training begins in Surprise, Arizona, on February 20th. And an additional corner infielder with a track record would be a luxury item that the Rangers may not be willing to pony up for.

Here are some of the players that are available and realistically within the cost-cutting budget of the upcoming season's squad.

3 players the Rangers can still acquire to upgrade their roster

Josh Sborz - RP

The man who closed the door on the Arizona Diamondbacks and delivered the organization's first World Series championship is still available. With the Rangers still in the market for a viable closer, it would make sense to take a look at bringing Sborz back and seeing if he can stabilize the back end of the bullpen.

The Rangers non-tendered the hard-throwing right-hander at the end of 2025, but he has yet to sign with another team. There is concern because Sborz suffered a shoulder injury and spent most of the past season rehabbing.

Luis Arraez - 1B

Three-time batting average champion Luis Arraez is the kind of slap hitter that the Rangers could really use toward the top of the lineup. His ability to get on base would be a welcome change from the true outcome at-bats that didn't serve the team very well in 2025.

The 28-year-old from Venezuela has spent the past two seasons in San Diego and has a career on-base percentage of .363.

Having Arraez get on base in front of guys like Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford would make their offense more consistent than it was a year ago.

Arraez played on a 1-year $14 million deal last season before becoming an unrestricted free agent, so he can be had at a vet reasonable price on a short-term "prove it" deal.

Luis Rengifo - INF

Rengifo has been with the LA Angels since entering the league in 2019. He is similar to Josh Smith in that he has the ability to play multiple positions and could be a useful Swiss Army knife if Smith were to move to second base permanently following the Marcus Semien trade.

Rengifo would enter the fray with players like Cody Freeman, Mike Helman, and Sam Haggerty as a utility man who could fill in all over the infield as well as spot-start in the outfield in a pinch.

There have been rumors that Rengifo could be headed to another Ranger AL West rival in the Athletics, but after making $5.95 million last season with the Angels, he is well within the Rangers' price range and would add valuable infield depth.
