Every Opening Day is a new opportunity for players to play at the Major League Baseball level. Where they are for that day is a major question for a lot of journeymen in the league. The 2024 season for the Texas Rangers was full of injuries from the start to the end. This led to a couple of interesting "oh yeah" players on the roster to start the year.
Here are 3 names you forgot were on the opening day roster in 2024:
Yerry Rodriguez
Rodriguez's time in professional baseball has been tumultuous. If you go to the latest transactions part of his MLB player profile, it'll take you a couple of scrolls to reach the bottom.
To start the year, the Rangers decided to have him in the bullpen for a couple of weeks until eventually sending him back to the minor leagues. His stint with the big league team was short-lived and unsuccessful.
This led to his eventual release from the club after a couple more demotions and promotions. He was eventually traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for Josh Mollerus.
For those wondering where Rodriguez is right now, he is currently a free agent seeking another opportunity.

RHP Yerry Rodríguez has been released and RHP Sean Sullivan has been reassigned to minor league camp.
Jose Urena
In a season full of pitching injuries and guys rehabbing arm injuries, Urena was a consistent beacon of light to the team in 2024. Whether it was coming out of the bullpen or making spot starts, Urena stepped up.
While not having an overwhelmingly successful MLB career, Urena enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2024, playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap throughout the season.
Without Urena steadying games throughout the year, the season could have gone even worse for Texas. Fans of the Rangers are trying to forget that 2024 ever happened but Urena should be remembered for his time in Texas.
Today he can be found at the Mets Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse Mets.

Jared Walsh
With arguably the most hype from the fan base during spring training, Rangers fans were begging for the resurgence of the former All-Star to begin last year.
Jared Walsh is a fan favorite among baseball fans after his electric 2021 season and the 31-year-old first baseman was hoping for a rebound in Texas as well.
His stint in Texas was short lived but he did help out until the Rangers got some health on the offensive side to begin the year. While he wasn't here long, he made sure to hit a home run before leaving town.
Walsh was last in the Chicago White Sox system during the 2024 season before being released. As of now, he is still seeking opportunities in baseball.
