Sometimes, in minor league baseball, some prospects could face setbacks or have a lousy season in minor league baseball. The Texas Rangers saw that this year, especially regarding the pitching prospects. Here are the five prospects whose stocks plummeted.

Often, in minor league baseball, prospects have bad seasons they wish to forget about. That happened in the Texas Rangers organization with a few pitching prospects in 2024. Let's examine five pitching prospects whose stocks plummeted throughout this past minor league campaign.

5 Rangers prospects who's stocks plummeted this season

Texas Rangers Disappointing Prospects: 5. Marc Church

Marc Church was projected to be in the Rangers' bullpen to start the season before he got injured at spring training. He did get some time with the Rangers at the major league level after recovering from his injury. However, his declining strikeout rate is starting to concern. He might need to spend the 2025 season getting his velocity and arm strength. However, spending another year in the minor leagues means you're getting closer to being traded or cut from the organization.

Texas Rangers Disappointing Prospects: 4. Owen White

Owen White's velocity placed him on this list. White had a fantastic season in 2023, where fans saw him debut with the Frisco Roughriders. White finished the season with a 5.64 ERA with the Round Rock Express. I won't mention his ERA with the Rangers this year because you might not believe me if I put it in the article. At 25, the Rangers might be ready to move on from him shortly. He needs a statement year in 2025 to remain with the organization.

Texas Rangers Disappointing Prospects: 3. Brock Porter

Brock Porter had a season that he would like to forget. Porter finished with a 6.98 ERA despite being a pitcher who turned heads during a 2023 season in which the Texas Rangers won the World Series. I remember seeing reporters tweeting Porter was the next home-grown pitcher for the Rangers organization. If Porter wants to pitch at the major league level, he has to turn it around next year. Or else, the Rangers might use him in a trade package.

Texas Rangers Disappointing Prospects: 2. Dane Acker

Dane Acker is a pitching prospect whose stock climbed at the beginning of the season but took a nosedive in the second half. Acker is still a good pitching prospect that I would keep around, but if he wants to remain with the Rangers, his consistency has to improve. With pitching prospects Winston Santos and Emiliano Teodo's stocks rising, there aren't many chances for Rangers' pitching prospects to earn spots at the major league level.

Texas Rangers Disappointing Prospects: 1. Cole Winn

Cole Winn has fallen off the face of the earth within the Rangers' organization. Even though he looked decent with the Round Rock Express, he could not seem to get a break at the major league level. He gave up 15 earned runs during his time with the Rangers this season, and we're getting to a time where the Rangers and Winn must part ways. There are too many good pitchers in the minor league system who could do better.
