9 former Rangers still without a job as 2026 Spring Training games approach
INF Donovan Solano
Solano will likely have to settle for a minor league deal if he can find one. He signed with the Rangers after being released by the Seattle Mariners in early September last season due to multiple notable players, including Corey Seager, suffering injuries. Solano, 38, barely played for the Rangers, going 0-for-3 at the plate across two games. The Rangers could take a flier on the veteran by giving him a minor-league deal.
1B/DH Rowdy Tellez
The Rangers signed Tellez on July 5 after the Seattle Mariners released him on June 26. He played in four games with Triple-A Round Rock before Texas selected his contract on July 18.
Tellez, 30, ended up being a solid addition for the Rangers, as the first baseman/designated hitter hit .269/.315/.457 (124 OPS+) with six home runs and 22 RBI in 127 plate appearances across 50 games with Texas last season. His above-average offensive stats were a nice surprise for the Rangers, as he hit just .208/.249/.434 (93 OPS+) with 11 homers and 27 RBI in 185 plate appearances with Seattle during the 2025 season. The Rangers likely won't bring him back at this point, as their position player group is very left-handed-hitting heavy.
LHP Patrick Corbin
Corbin, a two-time All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks and 2019 World Series Champion with the Washington Nationals, signed a one-year deal with the Rangers last March. He made 31 appearances (30 starts) with Texas, posting a 4.40 ERA with 131 strikeouts and 51 walks over 155 1/3 innings. Texas likely won't bring the 36-year-old left-hander back, as its rotation is pretty full at the moment.
RHP Jon Gray
The Rangers signed Gray to a four-year, $56 million contract during the 2021-22 offseason. In 82 appearances (72 starts) with the Rangers from 2022 to 2025, Gray pitched to a 4.28 ERA over 401 1/3 innings. Texas placed Gray, who allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings of relief during the 2023 playoffs, on outright waivers in August and he went unclaimed. Due to a right forearm fracture, he made just six appearances with the Rangers last year, surrendering 12 earned runs in 14 innings.
RHP Max Scherzer
Scherzer, 41, joined the Rangers via a trade with the New York Mets during the 2023 season. He played a key role during the 2023 World Series, hurling three scoreless innings in Texas' 3-1 victory against the Diamondbacks in Game 3. Scherzer played for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He struggled a bit during the regular season, but played a vital role during the postseason. He gave up just two runs in 5 2/3 innings during ALCS Game 4, and after allowing three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings during the 18-inning World Series Game 5 thriller, which the Los Angeles Dodgers won, Scherzer allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings during an insane Game 7, which ended in heartbreak for Toronto fans.
LHP Danny Coulombe
The Rangers acquired Coulombe from the Minnesota Twins at the 2025 Trade Deadline. Coulombe struggled significantly with Texas, posting a 5.25 ERA, and threw just 12 innings with the Rangers due to landing on the IL with left shoulder fatigue. It's surprising he hasn't signed with a team this offseason, as he was very successful with the Twins last year, posting a 1.16 ERA over 31 innings.
RHP José Leclerc
At one point, Leclerc was one of the Rangers' best relievers. In eight seasons with Texas, the righty sported a 3.27 ERA with 473 strikeouts and 200 walks over 360 1/3 innings. The Athletics signed him to a one-year, $10 million contract last year. Unfortunately, he missed the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a right lat strain in April. He threw just nine innings with the Athletics, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits and five walks while collecting eight strikeouts.
RHP Luke Jackson
Jackson reunited with the Rangers last offseason. He posted a 4.11 ERA in 35 innings with the Rangers last season before being designated for assignment and released. He made three appearances with the Detroit Tigers, then ended the regular season by posting a 2.38 ERA in 11 1/3 innings with the Mariners. He pitched in two games during 2025 the playoffs with Seattle, allowing one earned run on three hits.
RHP Chris Stratton
Stratton was a solid reliever for the Rangers in 2023, posting a 3.41 ERA across 29 innings. He allowed four earned runs in four appearances during the 2023 postseason. Since then, he had a 5.55 ERA in 58 1/3 innings with the Kansas City Royals in 2024 and a 7.71 ERA in 21 innings with the Royals and Dodgers in 2025.
