9 players Rangers could target from these 4 rumored National League trade partners

The Texas Rangers are still sending their scouts all over the country looking at potential good fits for the roster at the trade deadline on August 3. Reports indicate that they were looking at the Cubs, Braves, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks very recently. Who could they be looking at from each of these respective teams? We're gonna list a few possibilities.

Each of these teams is a definite buyer, so any trade the Rangers would make with them would have to involve major league-level players. Perhaps Corey Seager?

The Rangers are scouting the Cubs, Braves, Dodgers and Diamondbacks. Who could they be targeting from each club ahead of the trade deadline?

Cubs - the Rangers are still in the market for right-handed relief pitching even after adding Chase Silseth a few days ago. Then Jakob Junis went down, and it reinforced that they would likely be looking to add more bullpen depth.

The Cubs aren't going to be sellers, so it would have to be a trade for someone who can help them immediately as they make a run for the NL title. They have a trio of guys who have been back-end starters who could transition to leverage relief arms in Javier Assad, Colin Rea, and David Peterson. Any of the three would be a huge boost for the thin Ranger pen. Rea is controllable through 2027; the other are either headed for arbitration or free agency after the 2026 season.

Additionally, the Rangers could still use catching help, and Chicago is reportedly listening to offers for former Rangers backstop Carson Kelly. Could a reunion be in the cards?

Braves - With his flowing, curly mullet, Braves starter Grant Holmes has been a valuable piece for the NL East -leading Braves. The Rangers got a look at him on their recent trip through Atlanta, and they must have been impressed with what they saw. He is a high-leverage right-hander who fits what the Rangers need in the back of the rotation.

Two other guys to keep an eye on are 23-year-old JR Ritchie and AJ Smith-Shawver. They are right-handed swingmen who could be either short-term or long-term fixes depending on how they perform.

Dodgers - It's hard to see the Dodgers parting with anyone, as they have a tailor-made roster built for winning the World Series. But if they were to make a run at someone like Corey Seager, they would likely have to offer up starter Eric Lauer or their two most elite outfield prospects, Josue De Paula or Zyhir Hope.

De Paula is a consensus top-5 MLB prospect who is close to being ready for the show, and Hope isn't far behind him. New rumors are swirling, however, that the Rangers have inquired about right-handed hitting outfielder Alex Call, who is slashing .246/.355/.314. He is a good platoon option, as his splits against lefties are significantly higher.

Diamondbacks - At 58-52 and clinging to one of the last two National League wild-card spots, the Diamondbacks are in a similar position to the Rangers. They are actively seeking a left-handed bat to add some pop to their lineup (hello, Corey Seager). All of the relievers that they could offer are left-handers, however.

Young southpaws Kohl Drake and Rangers 2021 draft pick Mitch Bratt have been valuable back-end starting arms for the Diamondbacks amid injuries to Zac Gallen and Corbin Burnes. Either could fill the Rangers' bullpen needs. It's hard to see the Rangers seeking - or the Diamondbacks parting with - any everyday positional players as they are looking to add at the deadline.
