A lot has been happening for the Texas Rangers this offseason and we haven't even hit the Winter Meetings yet. What started with a managerial change has floated into an almost complete rehual of the coaching staff.
Despite all that, one of the biggest question marks heading further into the offseason remains the bullpen. The Rangers are entering their second straight year needing to completely rebuild their bullpen after yet another season of handing out mostly one-year deals.
Those arms are much needed for the Rangers as the revolving door over the last two seasons had negatively impacted the team's record due to the inability to close out games in the late innings.
With all of that said, President of Baseball Operations Chris Young, manager Skip Schumaker and the incoming pitching coach will need have a lot of work this winter. Here is a dream bullpen for Texas based on available relievers and potential costs.
Building the Texas Rangers dream bullpen for 2026
Caleb Ferguson, LHP
The first of a few offseason additions for the Rangers' bullpen, the 29-year-old left-hander would make a great addition with the ability to work multiple innings late in the game. The former Astro and Mariner obviously loves playing in the AL West and would give Texas a reliable lefty, which you could never have enough of.
Robert Garcia, LHP
Love him or hate him, Garcia is here to stay and why shouldn't he be? Sure, he suffered a tough stretch of games in June and August but being a relief pitcher is never perfect. He still finished the season with a 2.95 ERA and struck out 9.2 batters per nine innings in 64 games in 2025.
Ryan Helsley, RHP
This is the big piece for Young and Schumaker this offseason. Since Jose Leclerc left the organization after the 2023 season, Bochy worked with "closer by committee" cycling through arms that never fit. Helsley, despite the struggles with the Mets, has registered 70 saves over the last two seasons. Only issue will be the one-year, $16 million projected free agent deal for the 31-year-old.
Jacob Latz, LHP
Latz could go multiple directions for the 2026 season and while it lies partly on his performance in spring training, it also could shift based on others performances. Right now he could slot into the backend of the starting rotation but Cody Bradford and Kumar Rocker could slide Latz to the pen.
Phil Maton, RHP
If there was one mid-season add to bring back, it's the calm and collected vibe of the Maton. In 23 games with Texas, Maton had a 3-2 record, 3.52 ERA, 33 strikeouts, eight walks and three saves. Despite a few blown saves, he and Shawn Armstrong were among the most trusted relief arms for Bochy down the stretch.
Josh Sborz, RHP
The 2023 postseason hero went all season without throwing a pitch at the big league level in 2025 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery and not seeing the progress he liked in rehab games. For Sborz, it will be how he rebounds. He struggled to find his velocity and was ultimately shutdown for the year in September. Will that continue or could he get back to where he was?
Emiliano Teodo, RHP
Among the most exciting minor league arms, Teodo was on track to make the Opening Day roster out of spring last season but the Rangers were keen on developing him as a starter. His value remains in the bullpen thanks to his deadly two-pitch mix: two-seam and sinker that touch 100+ mph.
Jacob Webb, RHP
Agreeing to a one-year deal with Texas prior to the 2025 season, Webb is entering arbitration this offseason and is projected to earn slightly over $1 million. Webb, 32, was among the most frustrating relievers for fans last season but still performed to a 3.00 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 55 games.
