Embarrassing series loss to Giants is new low for Rangers in 2025

Dead last in runs scored throughout the entire league, the Rangers need a solution and they need it fast.

When you think the Texas Rangers can’t do anything to embarrass themselves to start the year, they go and up the ante a bit more.

Yes, two straight walk offs will do that but the manner in which those occur really are the lowest of the lows. Saturday’s walk-off was simple enough, a single by Patrick Bailey. However, on Sunday Heliot Ramos won the game for San Francisco on an error turned inside-the-parker.

By some miracle this team is over .500 but what started as an 8-2 season is now 15-13, and have lost 11 of their last 18 games.

The Rangers are last in runs (86) in the entire league, three less than the 4-23 Colorado Rockies. They are also hitting a combined .225 with an OBP of .276 and OPS .654, all of which are bottom 10 in the league.

Why are we making a big fuss out of this with less than 30 games played? Well, it goes beyond that. The offense has been horrible since the start of last year. Only difference is they were given a bit of leeway after winning the World Series and facing a plethora of injuries. The front office went a made a few splashes during the offseason and gave fans and MLB the impression that they were back and ready to smash the ball and score runs again.

Not only has that not panned out for them, it’s somehow worse than what could’ve ever been imagined.

This drastic option might be the best plan to save Rangers season

We are at the point to where some drastic changes need to happen and when I say drastic I mean changing personnel.

This doesn’t include getting rid of President of Baseball Operations Chris Young or manager Bruce Bochy. This means restructuring the offensive coaching staff and Donnie Ecker is the likely option to move on from.

Ecker joined the staff in 2022 as the team’s bench coach and offensive coordinator in. harvey of the team’s offensive game plans and strategies. It worked for them as they were one the league’s most lethal offenses in 2023 and hit home runs in 16 of their 17 postseason games that year.

However, last season the offense shifted into what it is now. The team started becoming more and more impatient, the offense showed clear weakness (failing to hit fastballs and chasing pitches) that the team just failed to fix and make critical adjustments.

Hitters lack patience which is one of the bigger differences in approach from their 2023 season to now. The Rangers have only drawn 58 walks this year, which ranks second to last in MLB. One factor that made Texas successful two years ago was they were third in walks, which set up their offense.

Not only did patience lead to walks, it also meant they weren't taking careless swings early in at-bats. This season, it seems they constantly swing at first pitches and go down 1-2-3 in an inning seeing less than 10 pitches.

Firing a coach and reshaping the structure of your coaching staff is never ideal but desperate times call for desperate measures.
