The next step in the offseason for the Texas Rangers is the MLB Winter Meetings coming up next week from December 7-10 in Orlando, Florida.

Packed into those four days, President of Baseball Operations Chris Young and GM Ross Fenstermaker will get the chance to engage with key members of the other 29 teams, potentially make a few deals or free agent signings and the 2026 MLB Draft Lottery.

The Rangers have been known to go big during the Winter Meetings, including the big deal for Alex Rodriguez in 2000, signing C.J. Wilson in 2011 and last year and acquired the infield duo of Marcus Semien and Corey Seager in 2021 around that time as well.

However, with the question marks surrounding the Rangers 2026 payroll, how will that impact Young's aggressiveness to go after the right players to make this team competitive again?

Rangers will be quieter than usual at the 2025 Winter Meetings

Expect this year to be unlike any other previous winter meetings with Young at the helm of leading the baseball operations decisions. After parting ways with multiple big time contracts, it's clear that the main goal for ownership is to field a team while keeping costs low.

In fact, its been a point echoed constantly by Young and Fenstermaker and reiterated through countless media outlets since the regular season ended in early October. Still this doesn't change the fact that the Rangers still have a lot of unanswered questions regarding their roster for next year.

It's hard to believe they will remain completely silent at the Winter Meetings, after already making several big splashes across the league this offseason. Young will likely address some portion of the team's needs but nine figure deals won't be happening anytime soon.

A realistic expectation could be getting the ball rolling on the bullpen rebuild by targeting two familiar faces: Shawn Armstrong and Josh Sborz. Armstrong has already expressed his interest in returning to Texas after a near career best season and Young enthusiastically wants Sborz back.

We could also see the catcher position being addressed this next week. MLB.com's Kennedi Landry thinks that former Houston Astros' backstop Victor Caratini could be a perfect fit to pair with Kyle Higashioka.

Another avenue could be the trade market although Texas might run into a few issues there. One could be the names available on the trade market while another problem could be the lack of prospects willing to part with.
