The 2025 season has been a weird one for the Texas Rangers from the get-go and even with only a couple of games remaining before packing it up for the winter, it continues to get more interesting.

Marcus Semien, one of the most respected veterans in Major League Baseball, has drawn criticisms among Rangers' fans in the last month of the season due to his lack of reaction in big moments while in the dugout.

Then most recently, the Gold Glove second baseman, made some loud comments about the team's season. While those sentiments were echoed by the fans, they also didn't seem too thrilled about who they were coming from and why it took this late in the season to make these comments.

Semien's end of season comments have fans bewildered

The 35-year-old Semein has not played since August 24 in Kansas City after fouling a pitch off and fracturing his left foot. While he was originally ruled out for the rest of the season the following day, there were chances he could return late if needed.

However, with the Rangers going 0-6 on the week of Sept. 15, he and Corey Seager were officially sidelined for the rest of the season.

Semien finished the season with a .230 average, 15 home runs, 62 RBIs 16 doubles and a .669 OPS in 127 games. All of which were his lowest marks since joining the Rangers in 2022.

Speaking on his season earlier this week, Semien clearly showed frustration from his lack of success this year. But some of his comments had fans curious of who exactly Semien was referring to.

“This team in general, has a lot of work to do to just get out of this funk we've been in the last two years,” Semien told MLB.com. “You think about the last two years, it's not where we want to be. We want to be in the postseason.

“I'm not the one making the decisions on who's in this clubhouse. I definitely know the kind of team I want to play on. That’s guys who are hungry and want to go for a championship every single year. There were just some things that didn't work out for us as an offense, and it kind of slowed us down. That ended up being the hardest part of this season.”

What confused fans online was Semien's reference to "I definitely know the kind of team I want to play on. That’s guys who are hungry and want to go for a championship every single year."

To fans who watched this season, it looked as Semien was one of the main issues in regard to emotion, drive and being hungry for a championship every year.

Semien's actions went questioned in final month of season

While being sidelined over the final month of the season, Semien could be seen multiple times lacking emotion in big spots where everyone else was getting hyped. It was most notably pointed out during the Rangers extra-inning win over Arizona on Sept. 1.

To be fair, Semien, just like Seager has not really been one to show an insane amount of emotion on the diamond. So much so, that when Semien finally does show emotion, it makes big-time news.

Adding to the strange behavior was his end of the season comments and the recent news that Semien, although officially placed on the 60-day IL on Friday, did not travel with the team to Cleveland for the final series of the year.

Semien just finished the fourth year of his seven-year, $175 million deal signed prior the CBA lockout in December 2021. In that time, Semien has been an two-time All Star, Silver Slugger and World Series champion.
