Baseball is a business, and like any other industry, MLB players come and go from companies and find homes elsewhere. These Rangers from 2024 were either traded, released, or allowed to leave as free agents after playing in Arlington last season. Let's take a look at how they are faring with their new teams.
How are these former members of 2024 Texas Rangers performing with their new teams?
Nathaniel Lowe - 1B
The 2023 Gold Glove first baseman was a huge part of the World Series Championship team. His stats, like many of the Rangers, dipped a little in 2024 because he played in 21 fewer games. He ended up hitting .265 with 16 home runs and 69 RBIs.
Lowe was traded to the Washington Nationals in exchange for left-handed reliever Robert Garcia in December of 2024. He got off to a hot start, but has come down to earth over the last month. Still playing plus defense at first base, Lowe has delivered a .230 batting average with 8 homers and an impressive 37 RBI, which is tied for the 13th most in the American League.
His production would easily lead the Rangers, whose top RBI man so far this year is Adolis Garcia with 27.
Travis Jankowski - OF
A former fan favorite for the Texas Rangers, Jankowski moved on to the Chicago White Sox to begin the 2025 season. After just 7 games played with the South Siders, he was traded to Tampa Bay, where he is currently patrolling the outfield for the Rays as a reserve.
His statistics are modest, like they were in Arlington. So far, Janko is hitting .244 with just 2 runs batted in. Ranger fans know that Jankowski brings much more to a team's locker room and gladly accepts his role as a part-time player who will do whatever the club needs
Carson Kelly - C
Kelly did an admirable job of spotting Jonah Heim as a member of the Rangers in 2024. But when the Chicago Cubs came calling offering more playing time, it was a no-brain move to the Windy City. Kelly has been good so far this season hitting .279 with 9 home runs and 24 RBIs. He also has an impressive OPS of. 968.
The veteran backstop signed with the Cubs for $11.5 million guaranteed. He is set to earn $5 million in each of the ‘25 and ‘26 seasons, and has a $7.5 million mutual option (or $1.5 million buyout) for ‘27.
These 2024 Texas Rangers pitchers have found new homes this season
Andrew Heaney - SP
The 33-year-old lefty had a rough go of it for the Rangers in 2024 going 5-14 with a 4.28 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He had his moment for the 2023 championship team, but saw his numbers swell last season.
Heaney was picked up by the Pittsburgh Pirates on a 1-year deal worth $5.25 million. The two-time Roberto Clemente Award winner has been better in the Steel City, notching 3 wins against 4 losses while maintaining a 3.41 ERA. for the last-place Bucs.
Kirby Yates - RP
The Rangers sure could use Kirby Yates this year. As the closer for the team last season, he registered 33 saves. He also had an ERA of just 1.17 with a minuscule WHIP of .083. With the way the organization has been scrambling to find a closer, it may have been prudent to re-sign Yates for the 2025 season.
Instead, Yates headed out to Los Angeles and landed a free agent deal with the Dodgers worth $13 million for one year. He hasn't been as good for the loaded Dodgers this season, turning in a 4.34 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched as a set-up man in the LA bullpen.
