For this member of the 2024 Texas Rangers, this Fall Classic will have a happy ending whether or not the Los Angeles Dodgers repeat or the Toronto Blue Jays win their first championship in over 30 years.
Right-handed pitcher Jose Urena, 34, will win the World Series no matter what. After 19 games in the big leagues in 2025, Urena played for five different team, including six appearances with the Dodgers and two with the the Blue Jays.
Former Ranger will be a World Series champion, but jury is out on whether gets the hardware or not
Once the World Series officially concludes, Urena's Baseball Reference page will reference him as a World Series champion. However, his limited contributions might impact whether he will be on the list of namess to receive a championship ring.
Urena started the 2025 season as a member of the New York Mets but was released on April 29 and shortly after signed a deal to join Toronto's bullpen. In just 12.1 innings with the Blue Jays, he recorded a 3.62 ERA, five strikeouts and three walks.
Upon his release later in the month of May, he signed with LA and only pitched three innings where he gave up four hits, one run and threw a total of 27 pitchers before being released.
Ultimately the decision of being awarded the ring and getting the recognition will lie on the shoulders of the franchise. So is fate is up to Dodgers or Blue Jays' ownership.
Urena's time in Texas was one of the best of his career
Looking back at the 11-year big league veterans career, his one season with Texas was a resurgence of sorts. Due to the plethora of injuries in the pitching staff, Urena appeared in 33 games (nine of those as a starter) and pitched in 109.1 innings.
His role on the team was a bulk reliever and spot starter. In that spot he recorded a 5-8 record, 3.80 ERA, 70 strikeouts, 39 walks1.32 WHIP and held opposing hitters to a .254 average against.
It was the second best seasons of his career, searching all the way back to third year in the league in 2017 when he was a 25-year-old starter. A member of a Miami Marlins' rotation that included dan Straily and Edinson Volquez, Urena played 34 games, starting 28 of them for Miami. He finished the season with 14-7 with a 3.82 ERA, 113 strikeouts and 64 walks in 169.2 innings.
