This weekend could have gone better for the Texas Rangers after being swept by the Reds in their home opener.

Offense went lifeless managing only three runs and a smattering of boos from the home faithful.

To make matters worse, a former Rangers’ pitcher, now with the Reds threw fuel onto the fire with a collection of post-game comments that honestly confused some fans.

Burke’s comments were off putting to Rangers’ fans

Following the Rangers 2-1 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday, 29-year-old left-hander Brock Burke stood in the dugout answering reporter’s questions about getting his first career save in Arlington.

He was 0-for-13 in save chances prior to collecting his first on Sunday.

Rightfully so, he was excited about his first career save but he seemed to think Texas wronged him saying, “You definitely always want to prove them a little bit wrong after whatever they did to you…. I got the ol’ DFA there.”

Rangers gave Burke many chances and still failed

While Burke was drafted in third round of the 2014 draft by Tampa Bay, Burke was traded to Texas in 2018 and made his big league debut the following season.

He initially struggled and was sent back to Triple-A Round Rock. Burke then missed the shortened 2020 season due to injury and spent all of 2021 in the minors.

Making the Opening Day roster in 2022, Burke had a breakout year, posting a 1.97 ERA and 90 strikeouts across 82.1 innings. That was the most of his success in a Rangers’ uniform, registering a 4.73 ERA in 2023 and abysmal 9.22 ERA in 2024 before being DFAd in August.

To kick off the 2024 season he started the year off with a 15.00 ERA in five starts. In anger he punched a wall and fractured his right hand and spent nearly two months on the injured list.

All that combined, his comments left a negative look in fans minds and if they didn't have a bad view of the left-handed reliever prior to Sunday, they definitely do now.
