Apparently, some of these national media outlet writers, like the Bleacher Report scribe, haven't spent an entire summer in the unrelenting Texas heat.
Globe Life Field, which opened in 2020, is listed among the worst MLB stadiums. There are some fair arguments to be made both for and against the merits of the current, cavernous home of the Texas Rangers with the fancy, retractable-roof.
Rangers' home park is ranked in the bottom third of all MLB stadiums
There is obviously something that the individuals making these lists don't like about the sleek, relatively new Arlington home of the 2023 World Series champions, ranking the stadium 23rd out of the league's 30 parks.
This is several years in a row now that non-local publications have weighed in negatively on the stadium that replaced The Ballpark in Arlington, which served as the Rangers' home for 25 seasons from 1994 to 2019.
It comes in just ahead of the similar looking American Family Field in Milwaukee and behind Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park.
Lack of Texas flair leads to stadium's low ranking
According to BR, Globe Life Field is a top notch neutral site field but suffers in comparison to the old Ballpark in Arlington, which it feels had much more of a Texas flair to it saying that if it wasn't for the big Texas flag out in center field, no one would notice it was the Rangers' home ballpark.
Maybe they haven't sampled the local cuisine available at the concessions, such as the Texas rib-eye sandwich, barbecue plate, brisket tacos, Whataburger or Shiner Bock beer as part of their list.
Did the organization sacrifice the Texas flair in favor of a retractable roof and air conditioning that would ensure a cool and comfortable experience for the fans for 81 games a year? Maybe so, but if you've lived in the DFW Metroplex or anywhere in Texas, for any length of time, then you know that fans have been begging for an enclosed environment for years.
In any case, as of right now, there isn't much in the way of Texas signage or defining characteristics, regardless of how state-of-the-art the facility is. Maybe over the next several years, the marketing team will find a way to incorporate more of "home" into the home field of the Rangers.
