A few weeks ago a group of youngsters, now affectiously known as the "Little Rascals", took over the Texas Rangers after the veteran core of the roster went down with season ending injuries.

Since then the Rangers are on a generational late season run, fueled by the youngsters. Most notable Michael Helman, Cody Freeman and Alejandro Osuna. Winners of 15 of their last 19 games, Texas is a season best eight games over .500 (78-70) entering the second of three in Queens on Saturday.

It has sparked a lot of questions and curiosities about the future of the Rangers. Is it time to hand over the reigns to the younger generation or is their hot streak just that, a hot streak.

Are the Rangers 'Little Rascals' ready to take over?

This is exactly why you draft, sign free agents and make waiver claims every year. This is why prospect rankings update multiple times per season. Building a foundation of young talent can effectively dictate winning or losing if done correctly.

A few seasons ago, the Rangers combined the veteran free agent signings with young draftees to win their first World Series title. This season, they are using youngsters to catapulte themselves back into the playoff picture with two weeks remaining in the season.

Led by the 29-year-old Helman, Osuna and Freeman have multiple years of control on their contracts and have seemed to provide a "infectious naivety" as President of Baseball Operations Chris Young puts it.

"I’ve said this before, any time you get an infusion of young players into a big league clubhouse, it can be a really good thing, it can be a positive thing," Young said. "And that’s what we’re seeing right now, these guys coming in and playing with an infectious kind of naivety and energy, which is great for veteran players, a veteran team that’s been around a long time."

Now, moving forward Texas will still need the veteran experience to rely on. The Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia and Nathan Eovaldi's of the game. It's hard to say the youngsters will take over full-time but at least they will give an infectious energy to the vets in the dugout.
