Justin Foscue desperately hopes this current MLB stint is different than his last

Justin Foscue's big league career is one that has left a lot to be desired as the former Mississippi State Bulldog has yet to find his groove in Arlington.

Drafted in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft, the 26-year-old made his debut last April 2024 and found himself in a pretty horrendous start. He ended his first stretch in the majors slashing .048/.091/.097 and finished the season on an 0-for-39 skid.

He made his first start of 2025 on Monday in Baltimore, going hitless, extending that hitless streak to 42 at-bats.

Foscue is ready to turn his MLB career around, but it's up to him to do so

The former first rounder is close to being one of those many draft misses from the Rangers throughout their franchise's history. It's even more frustrating when you realized how solid a minor league player he's been, having recorded a .275 career average with an .878 OPS, 70 homers and 289 RBIs in 392 games.

There's no way Foscue didn't come into the 2025 season without a hope for redemption but with each passing moment and big league injury, he kept getting passed by for other options. First it was Blaine Crim back on May 2 and then Alejandro Osuna a few weeks later.

Finally an opportunity presented itself over the weekend when Texas placed Jake Burger on the 10-day IL and recalled Foscue to take his roster spot. It should be a prime opportunity for him to get solid playing time since their only options are Ezequiel Duran and out-of-position Josh Smith.

He knows it too. One pitch and one at-bat at a time. All he wants to do is contribute.

“It's definitely hard, it was a tough thing,” Foscue told MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. “That's not how I really wanted to start my career, and it's definitely still weighing on me to prove to other people that that's not who I am. I know that's not who I am.

Regardless, he gets an ample opportunity to prove to the Rangers one final time that he has the ability to be a big league caliber player. Because if not, then he is going to end up on the long list of draft busts to come out of this organization.
