Well folks, the baseball games have just elevated in importance by ten with the final two weeks arriving and the American League postseason race still far from decided.

And what more could you ask for as a fan to hat the incoming final three regular season games against in-state division rival Houston Astros is a major factor.

At 79-71, the Rangers trail Houston by two games for the final AL Wild Card spot with not only big ground but waiting to be had but maybe even a series tiebreaker in the balance.

Final games of Lone Star Series hold substantial playoff fate for both teams

A couple of seasons ago, fans were stressed until the final days of the season. Ultimately the Astros outlasted the Rangers for the division title. That then ignited one the best American League Championship Series’ we’ve seen in recent seasons.

Now, Texas and Houston enter their final head-to-head series on Monday separated by just a handful of games and the results have huge implications in making or missing the postseason.

The Mariners just took over the division on Sunday but only by one game over Houston and three games over Texas. With Seattle on a nine-game winning streak they are playing the best out of the three AL West contenders.

It leads to the assumption that the three games in Houston for the Rangers will likely be a fight for the final wild card spot, unless Seattle starts to fall. The Rangers would love to take at least two of three from Houston and tie them in the wild card, but at minimum, Texas needs one win.

Rangers have Astros number thus far in 2025

Entering the final three games of the Lone Star Series in 2025, the Rangers are 6-4 against the Astros.

The two teams last met Sept. 5-7 with the Rangers taking two of three in Arlington. That means Texas will only need to win at least one game to secure the season series, which would come into play if same record tiebreaker presents itself at the end of the regular season.

The Lone Star Series has only played three games at Daikin Park, home of the Astros, this season with Texas taking two of the three games back on July 11-13. Jack Leiter and Nathan Eovaldi led the Rangers to wins in that series.

Despite no Eovaldi for the final series, Texas will have the benefit of their three best pitchers in Leiter, Merrill Kelly and Jacob deGrom toeing the rubber for Texas.
