Temperatures are falling and winter is in full swing. Yet, a sign of summer was announced on Wednesday when game times were released for every major league team including the World Series champion Texas Rangers. Part of this rollout was the unveiling of a partial reveal of the ESPN and Fox national TV broadcast schedule. Both networks will heavily feature the Texas Rangers through the first half of the season. Lets break down what the game times will be for games aired locally and when Texas will be featured on ESPN and Fox.

Are there any changes to home games that are locally broadcast?

Texas will still start most home night games at 7:05pm. The mid-week afternoon games will start at 1:35pm, Saturday afternoon games will start at 3:05pm and Sunday afternoon games at 1:35pm. Fans will not see any changes to those start times. The only games with varied start times will be those aired exclusively by Fox or ESPN.

Which games will be aired on ESPN?

It was already announced back in November that the Opening Day game was selected by ESPN to air in primetime on Opening Day. That game on March 28th against the Cubs will start at 6:35pm and all of the pregame festivities will be featured on ESPN that night as well. It will be a celebration of the 2023 Texas Rangers. That was already known.

ESPN sent out this graphic on their various social media channels on Wednesday announcing their Sunday Night Baseball schedule through the middle of June.

ESPN will feature Texas on Opening Day and then twice on Sunday Night baseball the first month of the season. ESPN will be in the house for the last game of the Astros series on April 7th. It will be the first series of the season between the two 2023 ALCS combatants. It should be a heated series as Houston will look to continue their domination in Arlington, while Texas will be trying to show there is a new sheriff in the AL West.

The third game will be April 21st and be an interleague showdown between the Texas Rangers and the Atlanta Braves that will take place at Truist Field in Atlanta. The two teams played an entertaining series in Arlington in May of 2023. The Braves took two of three, but Adolis Garcia and Ronald Acuna Jr put on a show in the series as both are trying to claim the title of best right-fielder in baseball., Acuna Jr won the NL MVP award in 2023 and Garcia won the 2023 ALCS MVP and had the game-winning home run in game one of the World Series. There should be more fireworks between the two this time in Atlanta.

Which games will air on Fox or FS1?

Fox like ESPN sent out a graphic with the games they will be airing through the end of April on Fox and FS1.

They will feature on FS1 Texas first road game of the season which will be a rematch of the wild card series from 2023. Texas will return to Tropicana Field for the first time since sweeping the 99-win Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 and ending their season.

The next Texas Rangers game Fox will carry will also be on FS1. Fox will be airing a Saturday night game between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. It will be Texas' first trip to Houston in 2024. Texas will be looking to extend their winning ways in Houston that helped send them to the World Series in 2023. This will continue a stretch where Texas will play seven games against Houston in the first 16 games of the season. After this stretch Texas and Houston will not play again until July.

The third Texas Rangers game that Fox will air will be on April 27th on Saturday afternoon. It will be a nationally televised game on Fox against the Cincinnati Reds. It will take place in Arlington. The two teams played an interesting series in the Queen City last April as well. Texas had the lead in all three games and the bullpen blew the lead in all three games as Texas was swept by the lowly Reds. It was the series that had fans calling for the immediate release of Jose Leclerc. Texas will be looking to return the favor in 2024 against a still-rebuilding Reds team.

Other series to make note of

Ron Washington makes his first return trip to Arlington as manager of the Los Angels Angels from May 17th-19th. That should be an interesting series as Texas will likely recognize Washington in some way and fans can see how Mike Trout does against Texas without Shohei Ohtani by his side.

The 2023 NL Champion Arizona Diamondbacks will come back to Arlington for a quick two games series May 28th and 29th. Texas will return to the scene of their greatest triumph in Arizona on September 10th and 11th.

There will be no Ohtani show in Arlington in 2024 unless Texas meets up with the Dodgers in the World Series. Texas will travel out to LA for a three game series from June 11th-13th. It will be a star studded showdown as Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Adolis Garcia will take on Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman. It should be a fun series that could also be a World Series preview.

Finally, the All Star game comes back to Arlington for the first time since 1995. The eyes of the entire baseball world will be on Texas from July 13th-16th. It will all culminate in the All Star game that will see Bruce Bochy managing an AL squad that will likely have a few Texas Rangers suited up.

2024 is going to be a season of increased attention for the Texas Rangers. They will be featured six times on ESPN and Fox through the first month of the season. If Texas continues to win expect that number to continue to rise throughout the 2024 season.
