Opening Day Bench
C: Andrew Knizner
UIF: Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran,
OF: Wyatt Langford, Travis Jankowski
I have fell for the Langford hype. I have went back and forth on this, but if Texas is going to carry the best 26 man roster then Langford has to be on it. I think Langford will show himself to be one of the best outfielders in camp and make it impossible for the team to send him down. Jankowski is back as well and will play all over the outfield, be a late inning defensive replacement, pinch runner, and just be a glue guy for this team. Knizner will be the backup catcher and Sam Huff will be put on waivers. There just is not a role for Huff, especially if Langford makes the roster and is playing DH. Smith and Duran are back as utility infielders or potentially starters at third or short if Jung or Seager are not ready for Opening Day as planned. That will be your Opening Day bench for the 2024 Texas Rangers.
Honorable mentions
Justin Foscue barely misses out. He will make his MLB debut in 2024 and I have no doubts about that. Danny Duffy does not make the Opening Day roster, but he will make an appearance for Texas at some point if he chooses to stay in the organization and report to Round Rock. Grant Anderson, Marc Church, Antoine Kelly, Owen White, and Jack Leiter will all be seen in a Texas Rangers uniform this season, but not on Opening Day.
That is the first roster projections for 2024. There will be a version two of this coming in a couple of weeks when there have been actual spring training games played.
