Nolan writin is going to be starting a spring training preview series this month that will run up until pitchers and catchers report. We will preview each position for Texas, what the players at this position did in 2023, and who will likely be playing the position in 2024. We will also look at what they need to improve upon this upcoming season. The first part of this series will look at the catching position for the Texas Rangers heading into spring training.

The catching position is in a transition period heading into the 2024 season. Jonah Heim is still here and will receive the most starts if he stays healthy. Mitch Garver recently signed with Seattle and Austin Hedges signed with Cleveland. Sam Huff is out of options and so he will either be kept on the Opening Day roster or have to be exposed to waivers and likely claimed. There are more question marks at the position than there were in 2023. Can Huff succeed in a backup role and play well enough so that Bochy can take some of the load off of Heim? Before we try to answer those questions lets take a look back at 2023 and give a grade on the position.
